After Microsoft unveiled the latest laptop as part of its Surface line, it has become evident that the device, which is manufactured by Taiwanese company Quanta Computer and is available on Amazon.com for $1,299. But what makes this laptop so special?

• The laptop is significantly faster than previous versions. Microsoft claims it can be up to 20 percent faster when performing various tasks, such as opening files and apps, downloading email attachments and launching Windows Hello (which enables a user to log in by scanning their face). This was confirmed by an independent test performed by Microsoft-sanctioned testers. It also enabled the laptop to boot up twice as fast when compared to traditional laptops with hard drives.

• The device is equipped with spill-resistant keys and is designed primarily for use on hard floors. However, Microsoft also urges users to use it on a mat (mostly when using the device at home). On its product page, Quanta Computer notes that the device weighs only 1.3 pounds (600 grams) without the battery, and is approximately 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms) when fully charged. It runs approximately 10 hours after being fully charged by a connected wall outlet, according to Quanta Computer’s product page.
